Hey all fellow book worms! If you have never read The Taking, you should! I strongly recommend it! It is Dean Koontz at his best! The man can paint pictures in your head with words, even if what he is writing is not exactly reality.
He is a master of technique in this tale that is his take on the end of the world. I found myself crouched over my NLS player with my hands pressed to my mouth, just waiting for the next scary thing to happen! He made me feel s though I was right there in the mists of that last night. Plus, all dog lovers will enjoy this as well!

Oh I completely agree! the narrator of that book did an excellent job at just majorly upping the creepiness factor.
"All. your. babies. will. die."

I liked that book, but I don't necessarily agree that it was one of his best. The usual Koontz style humor is largely absent, and that's one of the things I've always loved about his work. My favorites of his would have to be One Door Away from Heaven, Dark Rivers of the Heart and the two Christopher Snow novels, Fear Nothing and Seize the Night. I hope he gets down to writing the long-promised third novel soon. And yes, I enjoy the Odd Thomas books as well.

Odd Thomas is probably my favourite Koontz book. Ari Meyers, the narrator for The Taking, did a decent job, but can't do male voices to save her skin. I actually didn't like this book a heck of a lot, as its ending was...rather unsatisfactory. The most haunting line in it for me was, "I can bite but I can't cut!".

Seize The Night and Fear Nothing were also good. And if you other Zoners like Koontz, maybe give Dragon Tears a try...it's probably not going to be your favourite but it's definitely an interesting one. Definitely some humour - if ill-placed - in that one. Another fairly funny one is Life Expectancy, by the way.

I like Ari Meyers' voice but I agree she can't do male voices to save her skin. I definitely like the way David Aaron Baker's thus far brought Odd and his friends to life, and Keith Szarabajka narrates the CHris Snow books very well. Dragon Tears is a good book, but what dragged it down for me was the narrator. Oh I wouldn't say he was horrible but he wasn't the best. I will say I did rather like his portrayal of the Golems. But he also narrated Mr. Murder, which so far has been the only Dean Koontz novel I've come close to really disliking. I didn't quite get there but it's probably one of my least favorites.

They have it at the Library of COngress National Library Service for the Blind in the US or Audible.com has it. Or check your public library. Even if they don't have it right at your local branch they should be able to find you a copy.

Probably bard or bookshare.

Well I don't know if Bard has uploaded it yet but I know Bookshare has had it up there for years. I haven't used Bookshare for a few years though. It is a little bit expensive for someone who's unemployed. I may get back into it at some point but I haven't decided now that I can find most of what I want on Audible.
